Xtreme Farming leverages the power of the American entertainment industry to help African farmers grow more food and become self sustaining entrepreneurs. It accomplishes its goal by producing the 40-Acre Challenge, a Reality-TV series that challenges teams of Americans and Africans to grow the most food in a single season in Africa. Africans receive a “start-up kit” including a treadle pump and seeds. After that, teams can only use locally available resources, tools, and markets, and communicate without interpreters. The ideas and best practices generated by the challenge are shared among all Africans in the simplest of ways, helping millions grow more food.
Xtreme Farming is comprised of two organizations:
1. XtremeFarming Productions is a for-profit company gaining revenue from syndication, sponsorships, and advertising. It sponsors and manages the production of the 40-Acre Challenge TV series.
2. XtremeFarming.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Africans grow more food and become self sustaining entrepreneurs. It will meet this goal by creating a new kind of Web 2.0 platform dedicated to solving world hunger, one farmer at a time. It is funded by XtremeFarming Productions together with the contributions of individuals, foundations, and organizations.
The time is right: Americans want to help Africans. Campaigns by Oprah, Bono, and others involve millions of Americans in caring through entertainment. Reality TV and made-for-TV competitions are extremely popular. Web 2.0 technologies stand ready to involve even mort millions of on-line members through a new kind of rich media environment.
We believe that Xtreme Farming’s 40-Acre Challenge represents the right opportunity for a production of new kind of reality TV series. The 40-Acre Challenge powers XtremeFarming.org, representing a totally new way to engage and involve Americans in helping Africans grow more food. It’s a win-win scenario, and the beginning of a new journey toward solving world hunger. For more infomation, please contact Lee Snyder 952.484.0609 g.
